Kimberly L. Austin is certified as a Child Welfare Specialist by the National Association of Counsel for Children. With nearly 20 years of experience practicing law, she focuses primarily on child and family advocacy, mediation, and estate planning. Kim was elected to membership in the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation, which comprises the top 1/3 of the top 1% of attorneys in Texas. Kimis an experienced and respected trial attorney, litigator, and mediator.
Kim served fourteen of her nineteen years of practice as a prosecutor defending children against abuse and neglect in CPS litigation. Now, she uses that knowledge and experience to represent children and families in CPS cases, as well as in private custody disputes. Kim is also a family and CPS mediator with a wealth of knowledge and experience in helping families find creative solutions that allow them to control their future.
Kim received her Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas Lutheran University, where she graduated Cum Laude. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in 1999 and has practiced law ever since.
Kim’s passion is using her almost 20 years of experience as an advocate, in and out of the courtroom, to serve the LGBTQ+ community by providing legal counsel in an accepting and affirming environment. Kim also stays involved in the LGBTQ+ community by serving on the Board of Directors of the Dallas LGBTQ+ Bar Association.
Kim and her wife Celina reside happily with their pets in Dallas, Texas. Kim loves traveling, curating their art collection, and collecting the shoes that she is well known for in Dallas courtrooms.
